Much of that debt cannot be repaid, and many of these companies will go bankrupt, producing massive stock and bond losses rivaling the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007-2008, he warned.
The biggest threat to average Americans is inflation which destroys the real value of the dollar, and particularly hits people hard who are living on a fixed income, Rickards stated. He outlined issues affecting gold prices, and how various countries are asking to have their gold removed from storage in the Federal Reserve, and returned to their homelands. While he considers gold a good investment, he recommended that people diversify their assets. Having some cash on hand is a good idea, he added, because investment bargains may arise.
